Every Golden Star piece comes with lifetime care, included free. For added peace of mind, our optional Damage Protection covers setting failure, clasp issues, and manufacturing defects for two years — priced fairly by item value, and always a dollar below what you’d pay elsewhere.

Coverage, In Plain Terms

We built this to be something we can always stand behind — which means being upfront about what it does and doesn’t include.

Covered

  • Setting & prong wear Repair or replacement of prongs and settings that fail from normal wear.
  • Clasp & chain failure Repair or replacement of clasps, jump rings, and chain links from normal wear.
  • Manufacturing defects Any flaw in materials or workmanship present at time of sale.
  • Plating wear Rhodium/plating wear-through beyond your complimentary first-year re-plate.
  • Verified stone defects Stones with a confirmed material flaw (not impact damage) are replaced with an equal-specification stone, verified against your sale-time record.

Not Covered (any tier)

  • Loss Of the item or an individual stone. This is a repair and care warranty, not an insurance policy; loss isn’t a warranty event under Canadian jewellery-industry standards. Personal jewellery insurance is the right tool here, and we’re glad to talk through your options if you’d like — entirely at your discretion.
  • Theft Covered by personal property or jewellery insurance, not this program.
  • Impact or accidental damage A stone that cracks or chips from being dropped or struck is not a manufacturing defect. We’ll always provide a repair quote.
  • Water, chemical, or heat damage
  • Unauthorized repairs or modifications Work by a jeweller other than Golden Star voids coverage on the affected component.

Simple, Fair Pricing

Rather than a flat fee, Damage Protection is priced in proportion to your piece — a smaller piece costs less to protect, a larger one a bit more. A few examples:

Protection is capped at $419.99 — no matter how valuable the piece, you’ll never pay more than that. Pricing reflects the real cost of servicing setting, clasp, and plating repairs — the components a jewellery warranty can responsibly stand behind. It is not priced against full stone replacement value, which is why loss and impact damage remain outside coverage (see above).

How to File a Claim

  1. Bring it in

    Visit Capilano Mall or West Broadway with the piece and your order confirmation or receipt, if available.

  2. We inspect & verify

    Our team compares the piece against the photo and spec record from your original sale.

  3. We confirm coverage

    We’ll tell you clearly whether the issue is covered, and provide a repair quote if it isn’t.

  4. We repair or replace

    Covered repairs are typically completed within 5–10 business days.

Damage Protection FAQ

Do I need to buy Damage Protection to get the free Complimentary Care?

No — Complimentary Care (cleaning, inspection, prong tightening, one resize, one re-plate) is included automatically with every Golden Star purchase, no Damage Protection purchase required.

How is the Damage Protection price for my piece decided?

It's calculated from your piece's price and shown at checkout before you commit. Smaller pieces cost less to protect; larger pieces a bit more — but always a lower rate as the price rises, up to a maximum of $419.99.

What happens if my stone cracks?

We'll inspect it against your sale-time record to determine whether it's a material defect or impact damage. Confirmed material defects are replaced with an equal-specification stone. Impact damage isn't covered under any tier, but we'll always provide a repair quote.

Can I add Damage Protection after I've already purchased a piece?

Damage Protection is added at the time of purchase, online or in-store.

Does it cover loss or theft?

No. This is a repair and care warranty, not an insurance policy — loss and theft aren't warranty events. We're glad to discuss personal jewellery insurance options separately if you're interested.

How do I renew?

We'll send an email reminder before your 2-year term expires, with renewal available for another 2-year term.
